Introduction

The Cyber Security Student (CSS) Club gathers (computer science) students at Edge Hill University who express strong interest in the field of cyber security. Members meet to expand their knowledge by discussing and solving practical exercises and problems in system and network security, to socialize, share ideas and in general, to have fun with others of similar interest. Members also prepare for Capture the Flag (CTF) competitions and creating practical ethical hacking exercises. The club was launched as part of the Cyber Security Research (CSR) Group in January 2022.

Continue on the web seucrity issues, we carried out Man-in-the-middle attack using the Burp Suite. We attacked a vulnerable webshop designed for pentesting purpose, and hijacked the sessions and modified the shopping backets.

16th November 2022

Club members carried out bind shell and reverse shell attacks agains Linux and Windows targets. We learned how to use Netcat and Vsfvenom to create payloads for bind/reverse shell attack. We also talked about how reverse shell can bypass basic firewall protections.

30th November 2022

In this session, we came together to solve a vulnerable VM prepared for Capture the Flag purposes.

14th Decemeber 2022

We had our "Christmas hacking party" with pizzas, wedges and Christmas music :-). After wipping out the pizzas, we went back and bypassed some antivirus capabilities in Windows 10/11 to carry out reverse shell attacks. We managed to take control over a Windows 10 machine.

Interested??? Join us for more advanced hacking approaches and techniques in the upcoming semesters :-) ...
